Proclaiming the Risen Lord

A book by Myron J. Taylor

The first forty pages of the book are devoted to an Introductory Essay "on Proclaiming the Resurrection.  This essay represents what I would call biblical theology.  Theology is not a popular word with too many Christians, including many ministers.  Theology means faith asking questions, faith thinking, and faith seeking understanding.  An enemy of sound theology is what we often refer to as "the simple gospel."  Whatever else the gospel is, it is not simple.  God is not simple, Christ is not simple, the Holy Spirit is not simple, grace, faith, love, sin, and forgiveness is not simple.

It discusses in some detail the significance of the Resurrection event.  The only event comparable to the resurrection is the creation of the world.  For instance, if the life of Jesus had ended at Calvary, Jesus would have been just another Jewish rebel who got himself crucified.  That does not diminish the importance of the death of Jesus, but it does emphasize the important place of the resurrection.  Perhaps the best way to think about the crucifixion and the resurrection is to think of them as two facets of one tremendous action of God.  From the resurrection comes the Church, and it will be the power of the risen Christ made present by the Holy Spirit that will bring new life and vitality and relevance to our gospel today.

Proclaiming the Risen Lord contains fifteen Easter sermons just as they were preached through the years:  Something Happened Here; The Reality of the Resurrection, A New Dimension of Reality, Two Tales of the Same City, A Resurrection Revolution, A New Title Give, The Risen Lord: A Past Event, The Risen Lord: A Present Experience, The Risen Lord: A Future hope, A Grief Interrupted, A Doubt Dispelled, A Failure Restored, A Presence Unrecognized, A Resurrection Made Relevant, and You Can't Hold Back the Dawn.
